NATIONAL PARK OF TARA
Situated in East Serbia on the mountain heights of 19,200 hectares had been created in 1981. Situated about hundred kilometers away from the capital, it has been easy to access. In the mountains of East Serbia this park will impress you by its numerous water currents in the wedged in valleys and its two lakes in the heights (Perućac and Zaovinsko). The walks on the summits of more than 1700 meters and the descending by rafting into the third by depth canyon in the world would be your favorite activities.
Its forests spreading on more than 13,000 hectares make one of the greatest forested spaces in the mountains of Europe. It abounds in the natural richness. Thus, nearly 1000 vegetal species and 150 bird species are present here. But especially, if you are accompanied by a high mountain guide to encounter the wild animals such as the eagle, the fox or the brown bear.
Several hotels are here at your disposal in the park (Omorika and Beli Bor) or in the village of Perućac. An important palette of cultural activities in the near environment like the monastery of Rača or the necropolis of Perućac should be noticed.
Located in central Serbia, Kopaonik National Park runs through 45.6 square miles of the Kopaonik Mountains, one of the largest mountain ranges in Serbia. This area was established as a national park in 1981. The highest peak in the park is Pančić’s Peak, which is 6,617 feet above sea level. The park is in a plateau region called Suvo Rudište that sits beneath the mountains, making a beautiful contrast with the surrounding peaks.
This whole park is distinguished by its magnificent forests, wide areas of grasslands, and the variety of trees that can be found here. The Samokovska River has forged some beautiful gorges through a scenic vallely and because of the steep run of the river; it forms a number of rapids as well as picturesque waterfalls.
The area of the Kopaonik Mountains was once a bustling mining area for the Saxons in the medieval era. The park area is full of medieval fortresses that were constructed by different Serbian dynasties that ruled in this particular area. Maglić is the nearest medieval castle to the park area.
Today, sports, especially winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, bring visitors to Kopaonik National Park regularly. There are 24 ski lifts and Gondolas and 43 miles of trails for all levels of skiers. The area gets plenty of snowfall, making ideal skiing conditions during the winter months.
This ski resort offers something for everyone. There are luxury hotels, plenty of restaurants and cafes, and a nightlife consisting of clubs, bars, and entertainment. Kopaonik is easily accessible from the main roads in Serbia. The closest international airport is in Niš.
THE GORGE OF ĐERDAP
Along the Danube, toward Romania, the majestic gorges of Đerdap are waiting for you. This national park of 63,000 hectares has been formed by four successive gorges 800 m high interrupted by three ravines in depth. The Danube is getting enlarged in the same degree as it has been broken in these massifs in North-East Serbia to be ended by the famous Iron Gate. In Roman ages an important aqueduct, and today an impressive fence in the heights where it makes a largeness of 147 m and a depth of 77 m that is why the Danube has represented the longest natural river gorge in Europe.
This national park abounds in the natural richness such as 1100 vegetal species developed here and wild animals which are the bear, the fox, the wolf, the jackal and the eagle, you will find on the way the archaeological remnants of Lepenski Vir and the Roman monuments such as the Trajan’s Table and Trajan’s Road.
The Fruška Gora National Park offers, nearby Novi Sad, a host of activities in a mountainous area of great beauty. It stretches over a length of 80 km between Sremski Karlovci and Šid, the landscape is made of small, forested hills and valleys, with an average height of 440 m above sea. It consists mainly of large forest of conifers and hardwoods in which it’s easy to walk and make cycle cross. There’s over 200 types of birds, especially black eagle, but also 60 types of felines and 23 kinds of reptiles can be seen in a reserve over 25 000 hectares. Deer, foxes, bobcats, pheasants, ducks; partridges are among the animals most preserved of the reserve. We can also benefit from the presence of 1500 plants. But the park is also interesting for fishing in the countryside, particularly in three ponds around the village Erdevik to the east. Finally, if you choose to relax in a resort with pool and sports fields, visit the complex to "test", near the village Čerević of the Danube, or Stražilovo near Sremski Karlovci.
