The most important decoration of the Slava cake is a square seal with a cross in the middle. Between its the bars is the inscription IS HS NI KA (the inscription in Greek means “Jesus Christ is victorious”). For stamping this sign there is a wooden seal, which is usually inherited from generation to generation. Ornaments are placed between the lines of the cross and one for each field. In the middle of the cake there is a piece of consecrated basil. Each ornament on Slava cake has its signification: corn – a fertile year, birds – health and happiness, cluster – fruitful vineyard, keg – abundance in the home, flowers – beauty, purity, a slight smell of soul…
