Serbia Tourism - Visit Serbia and take a new look at your old neighbour

Nova Varoš

Nova Varos deserves more than its meagre hotel capacities. In fact, its orographic situation and its relief give the landscapes to break the breath.. between the massifs of the mountain of Zlatar with great conifer forests and the three lakes are the pearls. Nova Varos is in the heart of an exceptional nature. The whole town itself on a slope represents a little more than 10,000 population, but it is interesting for its ethnic configuration. It has kept its status of the capital of the vilayet in the times of Ottomans, a compact Turkish quarter. On the mountain range on the West from the town delimited by the main street which is an invisible border but culturally well present, the ottoman “carsija” with its market, its characteristic cemetery, old mosque and its entirely new medres. On the other side of the mountain range, mainly in the heights, there are Serbs who represent 75% population. During all events in 1990s did not cause the animosities to arise here. Today still, walking in the centre everybody knows his place, but a true tranquillity has been expressed.

Briefly, an interesting town of many characteristics, but that does not posses true tourist capacities worth their names. A potential in the full future.

Geography and leisure time

Little small provincial village stretching along a wedged valley surrounded by four heights culminating on the height of 1,500 meters: Zlatar, Murtenica and Javor.

ZLATAR

Zlatar is at the same time a most impressive mountain massive leaning on the town and a park of very rich leisure activities in the open air. The forests of characteristic birch and of the high fir of this region alternating with the prairies and the Alps like heights in colours going from the green fir to the bright yellow. Otherwise the three rivers, Bistrica, Milesevka and Lim bring the transparent waters, the canyon of the Lim is carrying through the narrow passages on the heights that can go up to 50 meters. In this luxurious nature speleology and delta plane are among the most demanded activities. But the familial walks along some road signed pathways are also possible with the stop at the alpine houses made of wood. In winter time the massive under snow the courses in snow shoes or in full speed skiing. Also three alpine skiing pathways 600 to 1,000 meters less difficult each.

TWO TOURIST LAKES

Along of the river Uvac indirect tributary to the Drina three artificial lakes had been created in the years 1960s. In the height of Nova Varos crossed by many tributaries by the road coming from Zlatibor, the lake of Radojinska on the altitude of 810 meters above the sea level, is stretching over 73 square kilometres. Its tranquillity an d its great surface area permit the navigation in the boat or in the canoe. These greeting rivers situated in the fir forests offer an ideal framework to camping. Here, still few, one should be in hurry to profit from these magnificent and unique in Europe landscapes. But indeed strong potential to the hotel future.

Then one passes then across the meanders in a boat or on foot at the lake of Zlatar, the greatest and the nicest without contest. Twenty one kilometres long and 75 meters deep, the lake of Zlatar impresses by its very rounded coats and this mixture of conifer forests near the water and dry herbs in the heights. The water of an emerald green and temperatures above 18 centigrade from June to September permit bathing in many places. The lake itself is a region of kayak and the nautical sports. Because of its relief with the danger of accidents the access by car is dangerous, but possible in many places. A little paradise in the Balkans.
